A set of SIX large rustic, earthenware pitchers. Two have a 100 centilitres cpapcity (approx. 2 US Pints), three have a 75cls capacity (approx. 1½ US Pints) and one has a 50cls capacity (approx 1 US pint.) You can see these capacities marked clearly in a vintage typeface on the undersides.
Glazed in a gorgeous two tone terracotta and oatmeal colour, they would look fabulous displayed hanging from farmhouse kitchen oak beams or on a country cottage dresser. The terracotta glaze is glossy and smooth, the oatmeal below has a slightly rough texture, making it very tactile. If hung from beams the bottoms can be seen clearly and, as the markings on the base are so wonderfully rustic, it really adds to their charm and authenticity. Perfect for medieval re-enactments and medieval themed weddings and parties.
In excellent condition with no chips, cracks or visible flaws, each jug has the famous "P Bardinet" signature, "distillateur Bordeaux, Déposé" (trademark) on the base, from the P. Bardinet Company in the Bordeaux region of France. Started in 1857, it is famous for its distillation of rum and brandy.
The two largests 100cl pitchers measure 45cms (17¾") circumference (at their widest) and stand 25cms (9¾") tall. The three medium 75cl pitchers measure 38cms (15") circumference (at their widest) and stand 23cms (9") tall. The smallest 50cl pitcher measures 35cms (13¾") circumference (at it's widest) and stands 20cms (7¾") tall. One of the 100cl pitchers has a piece of it's original cork stopper inside, which has proved difficult to remove, so I've left it inside! Altogether they weigh 4.8kgs/ 50.5 lbs.
