A rare and collectible set of crescent-shaped, salad plates, for side servings of salad.
Cleverly designed to fit snugly to the side of a dinner/cheese plate, these plates are illustrated with six classic French salad leaves recipes.
All in great, vintage, condition, with no chips or cracks. Each dish measures 22.5cms/ 9" long x 13.5cms/ 5¼", at its widest. Each weighs 400gms/ 14ozs.
The salad leaves illustrated are, "La Scarole en cornet d'Anjou" (Escarole), "La Mâche vert de Cambrai" (Lambs's Lettuce), "La Laitue Reine de Mai" (Lettuce), "Le Pissenlit vert de Montmagny" (Dandelion), "Le Cresson de Fontaine" (Watercress) and "La Chicorée Frisée de Meaux" (Curly Chicory.)
The illustrations are wonderfully detailed, with the different salad leaves sitting stylishly in, and beside, a traditional wicker basket.
They all have the "Monique Robert, veritable porcelaine" mark on the undersides. There is some very, very slight wear to the wording, on a couple of the plates, barely detectable, and nothing whatsoever to detract from the beauty or functionality of these gorgeous plates.
