An antique, French, cheese press. Duck/fruit/meat/juice press. An all round multi-purpose press it would have been used to make cheese, press curds, press meat, to extract juice for broth/stock. Also to press fruit, for juice and walnuts too, for oil.
This table top press is the perfect rustic farmhouse kitchen accent.
It is really stable, weighing a heavy 6.2kgs/ 13.6 lbs!
It has four feet, each with a hole so it can be bolted to a work top for stability.
In amazing condition, it works perfectly. The screw mechanism, tin strainer, patterned segment press, and press block are in excellent condition. The frame, weights, screw and outer bowl section are cast iron. The strainer is tin. The whole outer bowl section, with the pouring lip/spout, pivots out from the frame; to allow ease of access to remove the holed strainer. The screw is cleverly designed with handles that curve upwards, to allow it to screw all the way down into the strainer for maximum "squeeze." It oozes authenticity and rustic char and still has many, many years of service yet to offer.
From the feet to the top of the screw (maximum height) it stands 45cms/ 17¾" tall. It is 23cms/ 9" wide. The tin strainer is 10cms/ 4" diameter x 10cms/ 4" deep.
