Each plate has six shell-shaped "'wells" to hold the oysters/scallops. Traditionally your lemon slice sits stylishly in the centre, ready for squeezing onto the oysters.
The wells on these plates are shell shaped, depressed, slightly, with raised "ridges" and edges, reminiscent of scallop and oyster shells. They are fascinating to look at and wonderfully tactile. There cannot be a more stylish way to serve your seafood course at dinner parties.
They are heavy, weighing 650gms/ 1.4 lbs each and measure 24.5cms/ 9½" diameter.
They are all in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks. They have the faintest beginnings of "hairline crackle" to the glazes, which is to be expected for the age of these plates, and desirable for that "vintage" look. It in no way detracts from the beauty or functionality of these wonderful plates.
