An antique, French, cheese/fruit press dating from the 1920s. An all round multi-purpose press it would have been used to make cheese, press curds, press meat, to extract juice for broth/stock. Also to press fruit, for juice and walnuts too, for oil.
This table top press is the perfect rustic farmhouse kitchen accent.
In amazing condition, it works perfectly. The screw mechanism works perfectly. The inner, bowl (with the holes), the weight, and the outer bowl, (with pouring spout) have signs of tarnish which is to be expected with their age, but nothing that renders them unusable, in fact it adds to their authenticity and charm. The tin rim of the wood weigh is slightly loose, but this does not effect its functionality at all.
We have given the antique wood a beeswax polish. There are slight signs of old, expansion splits and one of the knobs has sustained some damage (see photo.) It is in superb condition overall. One of the best table top presses we've ever found!
It still has many, many years of service yet to offer.
The wooden frame, with screw, stands 40cms/ 15¾" tall (when the screw is down), 43cms/ 17" tall (when the screw is extended). It is 23cms/ 9" long x 13.5cms/ 5¼" wide.
The outer metal bowl (with 4cms/ 1½" spout) has a diameter 11.5cms/ 5" x 5.5cms/ 2¼" deep.
The inner bowl (with holes) is 10.5cms/ 4¼" diameter x 5.5cms/ 2¼" deep and the weight measures 10cms/ 4" diameter x 4cms/ 1½" deep.
Altogether it weighs 3kgs/ 6.6 lbs.
